Jay Z and Diddy Friendship Timeline
Jay Z and Diddy started their ill-fated friendship in the 1990s when both started to make a mark in the music industry. Despite the competitive nature of their field, Jay Z and Diddy’s friendship blossomed, watered by their shared passion for music, and ambition. The two collaborated for the first time in 1997 and in 1999 both friends had a serious brush with the law.
All in all, their more than two decades of friendship was ……. Eventful. They saw a lot together, went through a lot together, and did a lot together, so one wonders in what crimes were Jay Z and Diddy’s partners? Sex trafficking? Sexual assault? Rape? However, NewsZemi believes in the phrase “innocent until proven guilty”. Therefore, no matter how close Jay Z was to P Diddy, and regardless of his criminal record, there is a chance that Jay Z knew about Diddy’s crimes as much as we did.
Jay Z’s Criminal History
At the tender age of 12 years, Jay Z started rapping, and soon after found himself in the drug trade to make a few bucks. In his interviews and music, Jay Z mentioned that he sold crack cocaine and was also shot at three times during his drug trading days. In 1999, Jay Z allegedly stabbed Un Rivera, the producer who worked with the rapper. Jay Z fell victim to the rumors that suggested that Rivera distributed bootlegs of the rapper’s unreleased album.
Reportedly Jay Z told Rivera that he broke his heart before coming at him with an eight-inch knife. Later, however, Rivera dismissed all claims of Jay Z stabbing him, saying that:
“If JAY-Z had stabbed me, y’all wouldn’t have gotten The Black album. Because through my whole history, I’m an eye for an eye type of guy,” he added.
And so, Jay Z was acquitted of stabbing charges in 2001. However, crime seemed to follow the rapper, and he has been arrested on multiple accounts for possession of drugs, weapons, and disorderly conduct. However, nothing could have prepared Jay Z for the charges that are now making their way toward him due to the actions of his best friend P Diddy.

At the moment Sean Diddy is spending his days, locked in federal custody as waits for his trial on the charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. On 16th September 2024, P Diddy was arrested from a New York Hotel on account of multiple charges including sexual assault, sex trafficking, Racketeering conspiracy, and transportation for prostitution.
The arrest was triggered after a series of civil suits for physical violence and sexual assault were filed against the rapper with some cases dating back to the 1990s. The lawsuits came from more than two dozen people who unveiled the dark secrets Diddy was hiding in his closet.
After his arrest, the general public and the media started questioning whether those closest to Diddy, like Jay Z and Beyonce, knew anything about his crimes, or worse, participated in them. The internet is crawling with images of high profile celebrates attending Diddy’s parties, among which, of course, Jay Z is pointed out the most, being his oldest friend. A former drug dealer of Diddy’s, who supplied the ‘goods’ for the high-profile parties stated that those parties were “weird” and that is coming from the mouth of a drug dealer.
Former NFL player and convicted felon, Suge Knight, shared his thoughts on the Diddy fiasco, further furling the Jay Z and Diddy accusations. According to Knight, celebrities like Jay-Z and Dr Dre knew about Diddy’s crimes. He backed up his statement by stating that none of Diddy’s celebrity friends have spoken up, meaning that they either knew or had a hand in Diddy’s crimes.
“Facts is there,” Knight said. “Where we’re at now, I don’t care if it’s T.I., I don’t care if it’s Rick Ross, I don’t care if it’s [JAY-Z] […] I don’t care if it’s [Snoop Dogg], I don’t care if it’s [The Game], I don’t care if it’s [Dr. Dre]. Nobody stepping up on the fact that you know what’s going on.”
Singer Jaguar Wright also made serious allegations against Jay Z and Diddy during her appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored. In fact, the singer also brought Beyonce into the mix, stating that Jay Z and Beyonce are a “nasty little couple”. She said three individuals are ready to testify against the couple in regard to their questionable practices.
“For four years, I’ve been screaming not just Diddy, but Diddy and JAY-Z are monsters, and the victim-making machine kept going on,” Wright stated
Answering Pier’s question on why Jay Z has been silent about Diddy, the singer responded with:
“Because that’s what he does. He starts little fires everywhere and forces everyone to carry water while he sneaks away without a response. That changes now, Shawn. You must respond, you have no choice. Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, Robert Kelly, and Sean Combs have one person in common professionally and privately: Shawn Carter.”
“I’ve talked to hundreds [of victims] that I deal with still myself. I have three victims right now who are willing to give testimonies about not only what Mr. Carter has done to them, but his wife as well,” she said.
“They’re a nasty little couple. They do nasty things. Keeping people against their will, putting people on planes while they’re unconscious. Just like Aaliyah got on that plane unconscious. There’s a lot of things that people don’t want to talk about, Piers… I’m just being honest.”
Even though Jay Z has been quiet during the whole Diddy fiasco, his legal team did respond to this interview, by slapping Morgan with a lawsuit. Jay Z and Beyonce’s legal team issued a cease and desist to the talk show which resulted in the controversial remarks by Wright getting cut out. Afterwards, Piers also issued an apology to the couple noting that the accusations made against them were false and had “no basis in fact”.
Jay Z and Diddy might have been thick as thieves in the past, but that doesn’t mean that the rapper was involved in any of the crimes committed by Diddy. However, it also doesn’t mean that Jay Z didn’t know what Diddy was doing, because who knows you better than a friend?
