Squid Game made huge waves when it aired on Netflix in 2021 and rightfully so. The season kept us at the edge of our seats. A huge thanks to Netflix for releasing all episodes at once because waiting was not an option. This time around, our patience is further diminished, as the trailer brought with it a promise of delivering something EPIC. But we are trying to be good fans and are waiting patiently (somewhat) for 26th December to roll around so that we can see what thrilling games Squid Game season 2 is bringing to the table. Right now, all we have to say is, Welcome to the Game, NewsZemians.
Squid Game Season 2
December has always been our favorite month of the year. The cold breeze, snow, and the merry joy of the holiday season that seems to hang in the air is what made December the “It” month for us. However, this year, it is not only the month’s promise of bringing the joyful holiday season is that’s making us wait impatiently for it, but also the fact that Squid Game season 2 is airing on the 26th of December, the day after Christmas. We couldn’t have asked for a better holiday gift from Netflix.
Currently, it is unknown how many episodes season 2 will contain however speculations are flying around that Netflix will release 7 episodes in total. To be honest 7 episodes seem very little for a 2 year wait that we had to endure, but at this point, we will take anything.
Squid Game Season 2 Trailer
On the 31st of October 2024, we awoke to a notification from the YouTube channel of Netflix. Upon opening we were met with the line “There’s no stopping the game,” as the cursor moved round and round on the play screen, buffering the video, our anticipation rose. Finally, the video loaded, and we were met with the pink and yellow labyrinth, as players in green tried to navigate through it. When we saw number 456 frowning at the camera that joyfully asked him to smile, we were hit with a wave of nostalgia.
The character development was so palpable that we could feel it through the screen. This was the number 456 player who smiled ear to ear in season 1 of Squid Game while his picture was being taken. But now as he realizes what the games entail and the heavy price one has to pay to win all the money, number 456 aka Seong Gi-hun is more than willing to bash the camera than smile at it.
Throughout the trailer we see Seong Gi-hun trying to help the other players, trying to convince them to stop playing as they will all meet the same fate as number 456’s previous competitors met, an everlasting sleep enclosed in the embrace of a black coffin tired with a pink ribbon. But money is a powerful entity, and one can’t help but be pulled towards it. And so, the games continue, and players keep dying until there is only one man left standing.
Why Did Seong Gi-hun Return to the Games?
In Squid Game season 2 we will be reunited with our player 456, but this time he is driven by a motive other than getting rich and reuniting with his daughter. This time it was his quest for justice that made him jump into the arena of death. His determination to put the brutal game to an end could be seen throughout the trailer of Squid Game season 2. However, only time will tell if Seong Gi-hun will be able to achieve his goal or will fall prey to the games.
What Squid Game Season 2 Will Bring to the Table?
Squid Game season 2, airing on 26th December will bring some big surprises for the viewers and it’s not just us saying that. During Netflix’s Fall Edit event in Los Angeles, the creator and director of the series Hwang Dog-hyuk and the lead actor Lee Jung-jae confirmed that this season is going to be even more surprising than the last one. For one, we will get to see a new side of Seong Gi-hun.
“The way you see Gi-hun in Season 1 and the state that you see him in Season 2 are very different,”Lee Jung-jae said during the November panel.
Hwang agreed to the statement, adding in his own thoughts “There’s something inside him that has just been broken,” he said. “Gi-hun has experienced too many things — witnessed too many deaths — for him to return to the way he was before.”
However, Lee also made a promise to fans that they would get to see glimpses of the old Seong Gi-hun as he tries to help the players throughout the games. However, one can only imagine the fate of Gi-hun at this point. Nevertheless, whatever path lies ahead Gi-hun, we know this much that Squid Game season 2 is going to be CRAZY.
“Squid Game Season 2 is crazy,” Hwang said. “The world is crazy now. And this [season] is crazy because it’s based on the world we live in now.”
